Mavericks' Porzingis being investigated for rape

Porzingis was drafted by the Knicks in 2013.

Citing unidentified law enforcement officials, the New York Post and other news organisations reported earlier in the day that a woman went to police on Friday and said Porzingis raped her in his Manhattan apartment in February past year while he was playing for the Knicks - just hours after suffering an ACL tear.

New York Police Department officials declined to comment.

The Dallas Mavericks were informed by the New York Knicks of pending rape allegations against Kristaps Porzingis on a January 31 trade call with National Basketball Association headquarters that finalized a blockbuster trade. According to a report published by the New York Post, the accuser's yearlong wait to report the crime rested on the shoulders of a hush money package she was hoping to garner from the former Knicks forward, believed to be close somewhere in the range of $68,000. The Post reports that she brought the claims to the NYPD this past Thursday, which consider her claims credible and "believable".

"T$3 he alleged victim told cops Porzingis pinned her down on a bed in his guest room, penetrated her vagina with his penis and then got violent".

"We made a formal referral to federal law enforcement on December 20th, 2018, based on the accuser's extortionate demands", Riopelle said in a statement.

It remains to be seen what steps are taken next as the investigation remains ongoing. "Please refer any questions to the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the National Basketball Association".

Porzingis is being investigated by NYPD law enforcement and sources told TMZ Sports that the 23-year-old Latvian pinned her down and proceeded to do unspeakable things.

The Knicks were reportedly contacted by the New York Post about the allegation.

Porzingis hasn't played since his injury last February, and was traded to the Mavericks earlier this season on February 1st.
