Jussie Smollett Will Appear in Next Week's Episode of 'Empire'

Detectives investigated the incident as a hate crime but local news outlets cited police sources saying it was believed to be a hoax.

As we previously reported, after the two Nigerian-American brothers who allegedly helped Jussie orchestrate the attack were detained by police, his "Empire" co-star Terrence Howard reportedly confronted him once again and demanded he come clean.

Smollett has maintained his innocence and denied all allegations against him, as producers of the FOX drama series made the decision to cut his character off the final two episodes of Season 5 to avoid further production disruptions during the investigation.

"Empire" actor Smollett claimed in January to be a victim of a racial and homophobic attack in January.

"I will also add that there were several agencies briefed with information during that time and some of the information that went out was not factually accurate", Guglielmi told ABC News on Thursday evening.

In a statement, Sgt. Rocco Alioto said "a lot of the information out there was inaccurate" and that they are "looking at (their) vulnerabilities".

CBS Chicago reports that one of the nurses says it was a misunderstanding, as she never reviewed Smollett's chart; however she was sacked last week.

The actor was arrested on February 21 and charged with filing a false police report after detectives said he staged the hoax hate crime attack to boost his fame because he was unhappy with his salary on the show. She's appealing her dismissal and is speaking out because she fears others may have been overzealously fired over the same misunderstanding. She says she never accessed the actor's chart but simply scrolled past it when looking for another patient's name. The judge granted a $100,000 bail, and Smollett paid a $10,000 bond. Smollett has pleaded not guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct.

The Chicago PD's faced tons of criticism for the way they've handled the Jussie Smollett case especially due to the amount of information that was being spread from police sources.
