Stone proclaims innocence and vows he won't testify against Trump

Special counsel Robert Mueller indicted Roger Stone on January 25, accusing the political consultant of making false statements, obstructing an official proceeding, and witness tampering.

Stone was arrested by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, early Friday after a grand jury in Washington handed down an indictment, charging him with five counts of making false statements, one count of obstruction of a legal proceeding, and one count of witness tampering. While the arrest came as a part of US Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into alleged collusion between Donald Trump and Russia, Stone stands accused of a bunch of process crimes.

Stone was arrested early on Friday at his home during a massive Federal Bureau of Investigation raid in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

President Donald Trump lashed out at media again on Twitter after a longtime ally's indictment, saying that "Roger Stone didn't even work for me anywhere near the Election!". Stone also said it was "disconcerting that CNN knew I would be arrested before my attorney".

Speaking outside court on Friday after being released on bail, Stone told reporters: "I will plead not guilty to these charges".

Repeating numerous same denials made to Jones, Stone also vowed that he would never, unlike the president's former lawyer Michael Cohen, testify against Trump.

Born in CT in 1952, Mr Stone first got involved in politics at the age of 8, agitating for Democratic candidate John F Kennedy. "That's what I engaged in - it's called politics", he said. We must fight for Roger Stone... now more than ever.

Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr, has acknowledged he was expecting to get "dirt" on Clinton at the meeting.

Stone previously told a Vero Beach audience January 3 that he had no advanced knowledge of the emails hacked from Hillary Clinton's campaign manager.

"During the summer of 2016, STONE spoke to senior Trump Campaign officials about Organization 1 and information it might have had that would be damaging to the Clinton Campaign", the indictment says.

Stone has said for months he was prepared to be charged, though he has denied any wrongdoing.

Prosecutors say Stone lied during his September 26, 2017, testimony before the House intelligence committee about his interactions regarding WikiLeaks and his communications with the Trump campaign. Trump himself on Friday called the investigation the "Greatest Witch Hunt in the History of our Country!" The indictment against Stone does not allege that Stone or anyone in the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation.

Third Graders For Kennedy: Though he now sports a tattoo of Richard Nixon on his back, in 1960 eight-year-old Roger Stone supported John F. Kennedy for president. It notes that Stone then continued to pass information along about WikiLeaks and quotes conversations he had with Steve Bannon, who served at the highest level of the campaign and later joined the White House.

In the indictment, the special counsel alleges that Stone communicated with the Trump campaign and told campaign officials that WikiLeaks "had documents whose release would be damaging to the Clinton Campaign". The almost two-year-old probe has exposed multiple contacts between Trump associates and Russian Federation during the campaign and transition period and revealed efforts by several to hide those communications.

Mueller's prosecutors said Stone lied in testimony to the House Intelligence Committee previous year and allegedly encouraged another operative to back him up when he testified.

"Roger is a stone-cold loser", Trump declared.

"It makes me think you must believe there's a light at the end of the tunnel", Cuomo added.

"They're right, I did forget on some occasions that I had text messages and emails - that are entirely exculpatory", Stone told ABC.

Stone joined his friend's long-shot campaign early on in 2015 but left shortly thereafter for reasons that remain in dispute.
