Microsoft prepares to End support for Windows 10 Mobile this Year

Cortana may not have seen the same sort of success as digital assistants like Amazon's Alexa and Google Assistant, but Microsoft now sees those platforms as an opportunity for success, not competitors.

Microsoft will not be issuing any future security updates, patches or system enhancements to Windows Phone 10 powered smartphones after the support ends. All mobile devices upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile version 1709 will receive updates until the end of support day.

After Microsoft retires support in December, backups of devices for configuration and some applications will continue for three months until March 10, 2020. The company has a number of apps for both Android and iOS, including some with Windows 10 PC integration on Android.

"Microsoft is working with many commercial customers to ensure their successful migration to a supported platform prior to the end of support date". Furthermore, the companies also advices Windows smartphone users to create a backup manually by using the built-in tool before the sunset date and after that, the tool will be phased out. "Goal of Microsoft is a mission statement to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more compels us to support our Mobile apps on those platforms and devices".

Windows 10 Mobile 1703 support ends on June 11, 2019. In a recent update to the Windows 10 Mobile support page, a chance was noticed. Instead, you'll have to plug Cortana into the Assistant you already use. The company's voice assistant called Cortana has been lagging behind Google's Assistant and Apple's Siri for the past few years.

You can still use your Windows 10 Mobile device after official support ends but it's not recommended.
