Man City boss Guardiola dismisses 'ridiculous' four-peat hopes

Manchester City look to continue their winning ways this evening against the team that was first to take any points off them this season in the Premier League, Wolves. "We have a limit and cannot spend more so that's why we need to be careful with the players and try next season to see what we can do to improve".

"It's not easy to find the specific quality of the players", said Guardiola.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss added: "Specifically with Fernandinho's role, it's so hard to find". He knows the Premier League and, after three years together here, he knows everything and that's so important. "He'll be 34 and he can not play every few days".

De Jong, along with Wolves' Ruben Neves and Lyon's Tanguy Ndombele, have been linked with a possible move to the Etihad but Guardiola insisted they will not overspend to fill the role.

Guardiola tried to sign Jorginho from Napoli to fulfil that role last summer but the player opted to join Chelsea instead. "It involves playing with two holding midfielders - not just one - but he's an excellent player". But he's an excellent player. And the fact that he can play anywhere across the midfield would be priceless for Spurs, who, as mentioned earlier, have had their key midfielders, miss a chunk of the season due to injuries. That's not the point.

He added: "They defend well, deep, they control many areas - Moutinho, Neves, he can shoot from a long way".

"No, I didn't speak with him", said City manager Guardiola curtly, when asked if he had addressed De Bruyne's reaction to being replaced. That is not going to happen.

"Of course, all departments in the club, we have in every position four or five or six options (potential targets) -- depending on age, what we believe and, of course, the price".

Guardiola did not reference De Jong but conceded City face a hard task beating Barca and Madrid when it comes to transfers.

"I am in touch quite often with Txiki, especially, because he is close to my door. I don't talk about players not here, never did and never will". "It's complicated, so, so complicated".
