Game of Thrones teases eighth season with dramatic clip

The ice swallowing the wolf could be hinting at Jon's fight against the Night King - which we know is going to happen in the third episode of the series in an epic hour-long battle.

We've seen very little official footage from those final six episodes, and a new teaser released by HBO doesn't do anything to change that, instead showing off a map of Westeros quickly being overwhelmed with ice and fire.

The trailer is also a hat-tip to George RR Martin's Songs of Ice and Fire novels, on which the series is based.

The teaser dropped after the Comic Con experience in Brazil, where creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss were on hand to greet fans. Meeting in the middle on the board, ice and fire finally meet.

Game of Thrones, which has won multiple Emmy awards, is HBO's biggest hit ever with some 30 million viewers in the United States and an army of devoted fans worldwide.

All good? Let's point out a few things you may have noticed.

As pointed out by our own Kim Renfro, "GoT" composer Djawadi Ramin's "Winter is Here", from the season seven finale, can be heard in the teaser.

Season eight's teaser trailer was released late yesterday, and at the time of writing, had already amassed more than 2,5 million views on YouTube.

Kit Harington stars as Jon Snow on the HBO hit series "Game of Thrones".

Who will win? Fire or ice?

The screen then reads: "The Final Season".
