Police track down couple who lost engagement ring in Times Square

The New York City Police Department is asking for your help in identifying a couple after a proposal turns into a nightmare in Times Square.

The bride-to-be, Daniella, tweeted Sunday that her fiancé John proposed in Central Park, but the ring was too big and fell off while they were walking in Times Square on Friday.

Now, after the police department's initial tweet earned over 20,000 retweets, it finally located the couple.

Drennan told the newspaper they had planned to keep the lost ring a secret, but a friend forwarded him the police Twitter message.

The police force said that it wanted to return the ring "to the happy couple" and asked the public to help find the unlucky pair.

It turns out the couple had already left the country, police said.

NYPD is expected to release more information later Sunday.

Police initially said this all occurred outside the Times Square subway station, the crossroads of the world.

But the NYPD was determined to get the ring back. They also put out their helpline number.

NY police found the ring and put out an all points Twitter bulletin Saturday, looking for the victims of the matrimonial miscue. "We're making arrangements to get them their ring back".

Even NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill chimed in.

Authorities took to Twitter Saturday afternoon with footage of a man who had dropped the engagement down a city grate. "Help us find them?" But by then the couple was nowhere to be found.
