Melania Trump unveils lavish White House Christmas decorations

"On behalf of my family, we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year".

Mrs Trump designed the decor, which features the patriotic theme of "American Treasures". The Christmas Tree lighting will be in the evening on Wednesday, November 28.

"I feel as though I have finally won the Super Bowl, It's a great honor to represent the Christmas tree industry by providing the Official White House Christmas Tree in 2018", Smith said in a statement.

Here's a closer look at some of the other decorations featured throughout the White House - including pencil wreaths and a golden replica of the NY city skyline - so at least you know they're not all concerning or blood-colored.

What do you think of this year's White House Christmas display? The Fraser fir from North Carolina is decorated with more than 500 feet of blue velvet ribbon embroidered in gold with each state and territory.

The East Room focuses on "diversity and ingenuity of American architecture and design with four custom mantelpieces showcasing the skylines of New York City, St. Louis, Chicago, and San Francisco".

In the Grand Foyer and Cross Hall stand 29 more trees. These include a massive gingerbread replica of the National Mall on display in the State Dining Room. "It's a symbol of valour and bravery", the statement said. The White House crèche is also in the East Room.
