Youthful Pakistan crush Australia by 66 runs in first T20

Imad Wasim grabbed 3-20 on his return to global cricket after nearly one year out to help Pakistan earn an emphatic 66-run win over Australia in the first Twenty20 on Wednesday.

All over in Abu Dhabi as Pakistan completely dominate the Aussies in the T20 series opener.

Australia's told was their joint third-lowest in T20Is, behind their 79 against England at Southampton in 2005 and 86 against India in 2014.

Imad Wasim picked up three important wickets for Pakistan with Faheem Ashraf and Shaheen Afridi claiming two each. None of Australia's top six batsmen even managed to cross 14.The visitors lost their first six wickets inside the Powerplay which the Australian captain Aaron Finch called "a auto crash in slow motion".

Earlier, Babar Azam's unbeaten 68 off 55 balls had anchored Pakistan to 155-8 after Australia won the toss and opted to field first.

Only a fighting knock of 34 from Nathan Coulter-Nile, the last man out, ensured Australia didn t succumb to their lowest T20 total. However, they were blown away in a dramatic opening six overs after which they found themselves six wickets down.

Finch's side were bundled out for 89 in the first Twenty20 global against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi with Sarfraz Ahmed's side reducing them to 22 for six in the sixth over. "Opening the batting, it's my responsibility to get us off to a good start and set up the chase there". After Babar Azam (68*) and Mohammad Hafeez (39) had stitched together a 73-run stand for the second wicket, taking the total past the 100-run mark, the hosts lost their way.

The tourists got off to a nightmare start when Finch was clean bowled by Imad for a third-ball duck while leaning back into an attempted cut shot.

For Pakistan, they'll have fewer selection considerations to make ahead of the second T20I at Dubai on Friday if any at all. He said to media that "Absolutely they'll be looking at changes", and added, "I think all in all, our bowling performance was pretty good".

Australia: Aaron Finch (captain), Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey, Ashton Agar, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Lynn, Nathan Lyon, Glenn Maxwell, Ben McDermott, D'Arcy Short, Billy Stanlake, Mitchell Starc, Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa.
