Palestinian woman killed as Israeli settlers attack vehicle in Nablus

Seven Palestinians were killed in all and at least 252 were injured in intense clashes with Israeli security forces along the Gaza border on Friday afternoon and evening, the Hamas-run health ministry said.

Israel has ordered that fuel deliveries into Gaza be halted, citing violence against Israeli soldiers and citizens by Palestinian protesters.

The incident comes days after a Palestinian man killed two Israelis and injured another at a factory where he was employed at the Barkan Industrial Zone in the West Bank.

Hamas, the de facto governing authority in the Gaza strip, has orchestrated near-weekly protests along the border, pressing for an end to a stifling Israel-Egyptian blockade.

Israeli fire has killed 155 Palestinians during the protests since they began in March. "The assailants were killed", it said, without saying how many people were shot.

In May, about 60 protesters were killed in a single day, making it one of the deadliest since a 2014 war between the two sides.

Israeli army spokesman Jonathan Conricus said around 20 Palestinians had crossed the border in an "organized attack" after an explosive device destroyed a portion of the fence.

The majority were killed during border demonstrations, though others have died in airstrikes and tank shelling.

A later IDF statement called it a "blatant terror attack that was thwarted by IDF troops quickly and professionally which prevented a possible terror attack against civilians and IDF troops". In recent weeks, it has stepped up its campaign, holding nighttime protests and adding new locations, such as along the beach.

However, thousands again gathered Friday in sites along the border, AFP correspondents said.

Although the fuel was aimed at making the situation better in Gaza- where residents are now only receiving around four hours of electricity per day on average - the Qatar-bought delivery was protested by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as it was arranged with Hamas rather than his government.

It's the 29th consecutive Friday of protests against Israeli occupation.

Gaza-based social media released a video showing a crowd of Palestinian demonstrators surrounding Islamic Hamas movement politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh to protect him from the tear gas.
