Manchester United dismiss report Mourinho will be sacked today

The Red Devils are now in 10th place on the Premier League table - quite far from where they had imagined they would be at this point of the campaign - and are already nine points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

According to the Mirror, Mourinho has lost the confidence of the board with "senior United sources" telling the paper that the Portuguese coach's almost two-and-a-half-years in charge will end whatever the outcome of the league game against the Magpies.

Jose Mourinho has presided over United's joint-worst start to a league campaign in Premier League history.

The Daily Mirror has reported that United sources feel the Portuguese boss has reached the point of no return after falling out with players and staff at Old Trafford.

"Who is qualified in that football club to be able to tell Jose Mourinho that Alderweireld, Maguire or Boateng are not better than the centre-backs they've got?"

Man United and Newcastle have played each other 166 times in history, of which the Red Devils have won 84 times while their North-East counterparts have come out on top on 42 occasions. Get some leadership and for me at this moment in time I'm furious.

'I have to say Jose Mourinho will get the biggest support in his life inside that ground tomorrow.

Former United and England full-back Gary Neville, one of Ferguson's most dependable players, said such an attrition rate was against the "principles and values" of the club. Fans, players and pundits all speak negatively about this new United side who are unsuccessful and unentertaining.

The 55-year-old was sullen and downcast during his Friday press conference before the Newcastle game. This team can do much better than what it is doing.

"They have a very, very very good coach, a team that is always very well organised, against especially the teams of the first part of the table, where their manager is very bright on his analysis of the opposition qualities and to try to stop them."
I told you last season was a fantastic season for us and if you want something more, in pre-season I also said that this season was going to be very hard.

"To do that we need points, points which we lost in the last two matches".

But, once again, Mourinho said this would be a "difficult season" - a tune he has been singing since the pre-season tour of the United States.

Scholes said the players at Old Trafford are lacking confidence. "I have no doubts about that".

"I was furious three or four years ago when David Moyes was sacked and it broke a day before to journalists", Neville said.
