Microsoft unveils new Surface devices, smart headphones

The new Surface Pro 6 - Microsoft apparently opted to go back to numbered names for its Surface line - has notable upgrades from last year's Surface Pro. What's more, the new Surface Pro 6 comes in black in addition to grey! The Surface Pro 6 also comes with a new thermal system designed for the new quad-core Intel processors that also deliver 50% faster graphic performance.

Microsoft has not detailed the exact battery capacity present inside the Surface Pro 6, but the company does state that the machine will be able to give you 13.5 hours of endurance. Surface Headphones offer a smarter way to listen, with spectacular rich audio and hands-free calling.

It will also come with up to 2 TB of SSD storage, and supports "next-gen" Pascal graphics. The odd part is that the Surface Book 2 and Surface Go devices both have USB-C ports and not offering them on the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop would be a unusual omission.

Microsoft has not announced pricing it. Find it for pre-order in the Store here. The base model carries a price of $899, and it will shoot up depending on how powerful the top-end version ends up being. It will start at 8GB RAM.

The company also unveiled its next-generation Windows software - called Windows 10 October 2018 Update - which has a focus on productivity. The new devices should pack Intel's 8th generation processors, but we'll find out more later today.

"With this update, we'll be bringing new features and enhancements to the almost 700 million devices running Windows 10 that help people make the most of their time", Roanne Sones, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft wrote in a blog post last month. "Surface devices have inspired people to draw on their screens, work anywhere, collaborate across the world on 84inch Hubs, crank the volume with dial and even float their all in one screen up and down with a zero gravity hinge". It will be interesting to see how a black Surface will compare to the silver ones. It looks like Microsoft has officially confirmed earlier reports that claimed that the new Surface lineup will be launched in a black colour variant.
