Child dies after being thrown into river by mother

A 4-year-old girl has died after her mother apparently threw her in a Tampa river on Thursday, police said. She then parked the vehicle, and witnesses told police she waded into the Hillsborough River with her child. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The little girl's mother was charged with first-degree murder later Thursday night.

At about 4:06 p.m., police began getting calls about a child in the river, according to WFTS-TV (Tampa Bay).

Denson was spotted walking nearby and was taken into custody.

"Unfortunately at this point there are more questions than there are answers", he said.

"It's a insane world we live in", he said.

About halfway across the river, with the water near the top of her shoulders, Denson released the child, turned around and waded back to the shore.

Tampa police say the investigation has determined that Denson stole a grey Nissan Altima from an auto fix shop before forcefully putting JeHyrah in the back seat.

"They were fully clothed which was the other very odd thing to me". Search and dive teams responded immediately and found the body of a young girl approximately 30 minutes after the initial report. One witness attempted to intervene and was slightly struck by the auto, police said. "She starts dragging Je'Hyrah by the arm and heads toward the Hillsborough River". They were by themselves in the river so I don't know why I took a picture. Denson is also charged with grand theft auto.

On Jan. 8, 2015, 5-year-old Pheobe was thrown off the Dick Misener Bridge into Tampa Bay by her father, John Jonchuck.

It was not known if Je'Hyrah was dead before she was thrown into the water. Her body was discovered about two hours later.
