Defiant Trump says Russian Federation not targeting U.S., calls critics deranged

"The sentence should have been, ´I don´t see any reason why it wouldn´t be Russia.´ Sort of a double negative", he added - offering a laborious clarification that he repeated several times over.

In his statements during the press conference that followed his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in Helsinki, Trump said that he had heard from US Director of National Intelligence, Dan Coats, about Russian interference in America's elections in 2016, and that he raised the issue with Putin, who denied the charges.

What those five words reveal is that Trump is still not at all convinced that Russian Federation was the one who interfered in the 2016 election - or, at a minimum, that Russian Federation acted alone.

Texas Congressman and Intelligence Committee member Will Hurd said, "I've seen the Russian intelligence and, you know, manipulate many people in my career, and I never would have thought the USA president would be one of them". "Lots of other people out there".

Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of DE said he is in conversation with Flake and a number of other senators about taking action in response to Trump's comments Monday.

He declined to say whether he believed the US intelligence community's conclusion that Russian Federation interfered over Putin's denials.

"I'm calling for a hearing with the US interpreter who was present during President Trump's meeting with Putin to uncover what they discussed privately".

Going even further back, to December 2016, he said: "If Russia, or some other entity, was hacking, why did the White House wait so long to act?" I will say this: "I don't see any reason why it would be".

"President Juncker and President Trump will focus on improving transatlantic trade and forging a stronger economic partnership", the Commission said in a statement on Tuesday that announced the date.

With that, Trump declared the contretemps over, insisting, "I think that probably clarifies things pretty good by itself". In April, the U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on Russian officials and oligarchs in one of Washington's most aggressive moves to punish Moscow.

Insisting he had won the race fair and square, Trump said Monday: "I have President Putin, he just said it is not Russian Federation".

"There wasn't a commitment made on behalf of the United States, and the president will work with his team, and we'll let you know if there's an announcement on that front", Sanders said.

I wonder if he made the same mistakes, and used the wrong words, when he had his private meeting with Putin?

European Union leaders who met the USA president at a tense G7 summit in Canada were rattled by Trump's disregard for the post-1945 world order, his mocking tone and bellicose rhetoric.

Jim Mattis, the secretary of defense, has carved out a role where he avoids contradicting the president directly but sticks to establishment foreign policy views, like support for European allies and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, that are at odds with Mr. Trump's instinctual positions. He also went after his Justice Department, calling its investigation into Russia's efforts and potential collusion with Trump's campaign a "disaster for our country".

The Russian military "is ready to intensify contacts with the United States colleagues in the General Staff and other available channels to discuss the extension of the START treaty, cooperation in Syria, as well as other issues of ensuring military security", Konashenkov said.
