Israel Continues to Pound Gaza despite Ceasefire; 2 Teens Killed

Israeli military officials say the weekend attacks on Gaza were retaliation for that casualty, and that it was "sufficient reason to go on the offensive".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he will not accept a ceasefire unless all hostilities end including incendiary kites and balloons from Gaza, even as Egypt-brokered ceasefire holds after a day of intense fighting.

. I hope they got the message, ' he said.

The Palestinian resistance in the strip responded by firing rockets towards Gaza envelope settlements.

An Israeli military spokesman declined to comment, but said its actions would depend on what happens on the ground.

Fifteen people have been wounded across Gaza, the ministry said.

In Israel, air raid sirens sent people rushing to shelters in areas surrounding the Gaza Strip as rockets and mortars were fired from the Palestinian enclave at nearby communities. Hamas's urban warfare training facility in the al-Shati refugee camp, which is connected to the terror group's vast tunnel network, was meant to be used for public or government services for the Palestinians; aerial photos released by the IDF show destruction of Hamas battalion headquarters.

Tensions have been building between Hamas and Israel for months over mass protests and clashes along the border fence. It accuses Hamas of seeking to use the protests as cover for attacks against Israel.

Since March, more than 130 people have been martyred and thousands more injured by Israeli army fire during Palestinian protests against the decades-long Israeli occupation and 11-year blockade, which has gutted the coastal enclave's economy and deprived its roughly 2 million inhabitants of basic commodities.

The majority of those killed were involved in protests and clashes but others were seeking to breach or damage the border fence.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced it had made two waves of strikes on two Hamas terror tunnels as well as several Hamas military sites between Friday midnight and early Saturday morning.

Netanyahu said in a statement that Israel has chose to take strong action against Hamas terrorism after consultation with state officials.

"The leadership of the enemy will be fully responsible for more aggression on the Gaza Strip and will pay a very heavy price for its stubbornness", said Hamas armed wing, al Qassam Brigades, in a short press statement.

Tension between Israel and the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has been flaring up over the past few weeks, where the Egyptian security intelligence, which always mediates a ceasefire between the two sides, repeatedly intervened to stop more escalation.
