Five things you should know about Maurizio Sarri

The 48-year-old Italian, who had a year left on his contract, took pre-season training earlier this week.

Maurizio Sarri is expected to be announced as Chelsea manager in the coming days after Antonio Conte was finally relieved of his duties by Chelsea this week after months of enduring a loveless marriage in which neither party was willing to file the divorce papers.

"We won our sixth league title and eighth FA Cup.

I wish you every success in the future".

Chelsea are expected to announce Sarri's appointment on an initial two-year contract imminently - together with the signing of Italy worldwide midfielder Jorginho for a combined fee of €65 million (£57.5m) - after convincing Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis to release the 59-year-old from his contract.

Sarri guided Napoli to a finish of second in Serie A last season.

El Shaarawy has reached double figures in terms of scoring in just two seasons since making his competitive debut almost a decade ago but during this period, he has produced many match-defining performances.

Winning the FA Cup against former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho's Manchester United in May was scant consolation to finishing 30 points behind champions Manchester City in the league.

But it will be another fresh start for Chelsea with Sarri becoming the club's seventh permanent manager since 2011.

The news brings to an end many months of speculation over Conte's future at the club.

Conte's relationship with the Chelsea hierarchy had soured in the final year at the helm of the club regarding transfers.

Antonio Conte's dismissal at Chelsea surprised nobody.

Conte's volcanic intensity also alienated some insiders, including leading players whose discontent filtered out.

Conte has looked to be on borrowed time at Chelsea since last summer but history suggests his departure will hardly shake Stamford Bridge to its foundations.
