A rival to Apple’s iPad — Microsoft Surface Go

The range of devices before the Microsoft Surface was officially joined by a low-priced Surface of Go, the recommended price which begins at $ 399.

Sales from Microsoft's Surface line increased 32 percent in its most recent quarter, but the series of tablets and laptops still lag behind market leader Apple's iPad and MacBook series (which has faced its own struggles). The device weighs under 500grams (without any accessories) and has a thickness of 8.3 mm.

It is powered by the 7th Generation Intel Pentium Gold Processor 4415Y, in a fanless design, offering up to nine hours of battery. The company claims that the device can last up to 9 hours on a single charge and this processor is paired with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of flash storage.

"When we designed this device, we had to ask ourselves what people want and need from a 10" Surface", Microsoft chief product officer Panos Panay wrote in a blog announcing the device.

Microsoft has today launched its latest product in Surface lineup called Microsoft Surface Go.

The 2-in-1 Surface Go comes with an optional detachable surface Type Cover.

With its 3:2 ratio PixelSense Display, the Surface Go supports the Surface Pen. It's a little heavier than the Surface Go and measures up at almost a couple of inches longer, but that doesn't detract from it being a versatile, compact device.

What do you think about the 10-inch Surface Go?

The signature built-in kickstand and flexible hardware returns, but the new Surface tablet now comes with a USB-C 3.1 port, allowing you to charge the tablet or output video to external devices. The tablet runs Microsoft's restricted Windows 10 S operating system by default, which is no surprise since the company's more expensive Surface Laptop does the same, although users will be able to switch to the full version if desired. Then, when it comes to cameras, the tablet is equipped with a 5-megapixel Windows Hello face sign-in camera and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus. Apple's iPad poses another formidable challenge - Surface Go is closer in price to the entry-level ($329) iPad than the more robust iPad Pro. The Surface Go Signature Type Cover boasts ergonomic key pitch and a five-point multi-touch Windows Precision Touchpad for when you want to use it as a laptop. Cellular versions are to come later. The Surface Go will begin to hit shelves in stores on August 2, with an LTE model to follow as well later this year.
