James Comey Used Personal Email For FBI Business, Inspector General Finds

President Donald Trump has pointed to the FBI's handling of the Clinton investigation as evidence that the bureau is biased against him.

His criticism comes shortly after the release of the scathing report by DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz, which found fired FBI Director James Comey was insubordinate and criticized his handling of the Clinton email probe.

"I mean, when you look at Peter Strzok and what he said about me, when you look at [James] Comey and all his moves".

Former FBI Director James Comey speaks about his book "A Higher Loyalty" during a discussion at the Brookings Institution May 11, 2018 in Washington, DC.

But he was removed from the post in July 2017 after thousands of emails and text messages became public, including one in which he promised "we'll stop him" if Trump won.

Trump added: "And there was total bias". Strzok, who was romantically involved with Page, was a lead investigator on the Clinton case and later worked the Russian Federation probe before being removed.

"We found no evidence that the conclusions by the prosecutors were affected by bias or other improper considerations; rather, we determined that they were based on the prosecutors' assessment of the facts, the law and past department practice", the report said. Comey, however, did not use his personal email to handle any classified information, the report said.

In the days before the presidential election, Mr Comey announced that new emails had surfaced which related to that case.

Democrats said it confirmed political bias did not influence the Clinton investigation, while Republicans seized on a newly disclosed text by an FBI agent in mid-2016 expressing his apparent intention to "stop" the Trump campaign.

The DoJ report found no evidence to support Trump's claim that Comey was motivated by political bias.

Comey was conducting the probe into the correspondence of presidential candidate Hilary Clinton, who used a private mail server when she was Secretary of State from 2009-2013. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL) have asked the Justice Department to hand over all unrevised drafts of the inspector general report that was released Thursday, amid concerns that "people may have changed the report in a way that obfuscates your findings".

Mueller is looking into the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election and any potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow, among other matters that may arise from the investigation.
