Trump aide apologises for saying there's 'special place in hell' for Trudeau

He said Trudeau's promise to follow through with tariffs on U.S. goods- a response to Trump's own tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico, and the European Union - would hurt the Canadian economy.

Trump, who had criticised Trudeau after the G7 meeting in Canada on the weekend, said the United States had a big trade deficit with Canada, and "a little balance" was needed.

In a display of calculated aggression, Kudlow thumped the table as he told CNN's State of the Union Trudeau had "stabbed us in the back" and instigated "a betrayal".

Trump's most recent salvo came in a series of tweets from Singapore late Sunday, where he again blasted Canada for charging a 270 per cent tariff on USA dairy imports, and levelled more personal attacks at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The criticism was echoed by White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow, who joined Trump at the G7 meetings.

"I will always protect Canadian workers and Canadian interests", Mr Trudeau said.

"We want to see the prime minister and the federal government stand up to the president", Bilous said Tuesday at the Global Petroleum Show in Calgary.

Ahead of the annual gathering of leaders of the largest advanced democracies, there was speculation that President TrumpDonald John TrumpSanford at risk in primary shadowed by Trump McConnell cements his standing in GOP history Ready for somebody?

Canada is America's largest trading partner, he said, adding that the US economy would struggle to make up for Canada's absence in a tariff tit-for-tat. He also called Trump's meeting with North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un Tuesday "far more important" than the G-7.

"In the name of the Western allies, he ought to come out today and wish President Trump well in the negotiations, instead of taking potshots at us", Kudlow said.

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday", Navarro said: "There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump".

President Trump responded with a tweet calling Trudeau "very dishonest and weak" and followed up by saying the U.S. would not endorse the G7 communique, a document signed by the seven leaders underlining their commitment to free and open trade. That increase would result in real income losses of 0.8 percent or more than $634 billion relative to baseline estimates after three years. Save public charges of treachery for our adversaries.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to withdraw the United States from NAFTA and negotiate bilateral deals with Canada and Mexico. "He'll learn, he can't do that", Trump said.

"I think he set the news in a completely wrong direction as he headed off to Singapore", Heyman said. "The prime minister has indicated this clearly ... and our negotiators at the NAFTA table have also indicated this clearly".
