Israel warns Gazans to avoid border in Friday protest

While the investigation into the killing of 21-year-old Palestinian nurse Razan Najjar by Israeli troops last week continues, the military has already offered a brief preliminary statement Tuesday, saying that no shots were "deliberately or directly aimed towards her".

The soldier then immediately responded to the assault by firing at the Palestinian.

Locals told Ma'an that Adli al-Rimawi shot with a rubber-coated steel bullet in his foot by Israeli forces during clashes that erupted following an Israeli ground and air raid in the village.

The subcommittee's focus was on what it described as "the Palestinian Authority's strategic takeover of land in Area C", the roughly 60 per cent of the West Bank where the majority of illegal Israeli settlements are located, and where Palestinian structures are routinely demolished.

The IDF said it's investigating this latest incident, in which Izz ad-Din Tamimi was killed, but it's far from the first case of Palestinians being shot.

In the capitals of Iran and Iraq, thousands of Shiite Muslims marched in Jerusalem Day protests, some chanting "Death to Israel" or burning Israeli flags and effigies of President Donald Trump. Others threw stones or flew kites with burning rags attached, aiming to send them over the border and set Israeli fields on fire.

The marchers have also pressed demands for a "right of return" for descendants of Palestinian refugees to ancestral homes in what is now Israel.

Israel says many protest participants were members of Hamas, the dominant armed group in the Gaza Strip, and militants trying to breach the fenced frontier and launch attacks. "We need real Arab support and solidarity with our cause", said Saleh, a student of Arabic literature who wore a medical mask against the tear gas.

"International law only permits use of lethal force when there's an imminent threat to life".

Israel captured east Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war and annexed it to its capital, a move not recognized by most of the global community.

Police also detained two other Palestinians, including a youth, from inside the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
