Mario Tennis Aces demo coming first June

Nintendo has revealed the dates for an upcoming Mario Tennis Aces tournament, which is being used as an early access beta for the game. Eastern time (6 Pacific) on June 1 and will run until 2:59 a.m. on June 4 (11:59 on June 3 PDT).

We're about a month away from Mario Tennis Aces, and hot off the heels of the online tournament announcement yesterday we've got a new, story mode focused trailer.

Tennis hopefuls will be able to pick from four playable characters - Mario, Peach, Yoshi, and Bowser - and take part in online multiplayer matches in a tournament format. In addition, the title will feature a campaign mode where we will enjoy an adventure that will take us to face some bosses of the series.

Nintendo is also offering unlockable content in the form of Mario's dungarees for the main game. Of course, Mario Tennis Aces will have to contend with Super Smash Bros, which will undoubtedly be the star of Nintendo's press conference. However, five additional characters will be unlockable with points accumulated through participation in the tournament and online stages. Nintendo won't say who those characters are yet, but we have a pretty good idea. The first trailer is an introduction to Mario Tennis Aces' story, while the second, longer trailer provides a more detailed overview of the game (the video is in Japanese, but it's easy enough to follow along). Players will be able to compete against other people online.

The Mario Tennis series is about to faithfully revived in Mario Tennis Aces.

Even if you don't want to participate in the tournament proper, you can still try out the game offline and get in some practice playing on-off single-player battles against a computer-controlled opponent.
