Oculus Go Is Up For Pre-order At Amazon

What is Oculus Go? A post on Reddit shows boxed headsets in a Best Buy glass display case, and Amazon has posted a pre-release page for the headset, as well. In order to solve this problem, the Oculus Go was announced late previous year and does not require a PC or smartphone, and instead functions as a stand-alone unit.

Oculus had been keeping quiet about when, exactly, Go would go on sale, only saying that it expected to launch the standalone headset in early 2018.

While you have to be an invited developer to attend F8, if this is true, the Oculus Go's retail release could be imminent.

If you're intrigued by Oculus Go, stay tuned throughout F8. The standalone VR headset has a starting price of $199 for the 32GB version and $249 for the 64GB version.

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg first revealed the Oculus Go at the Oculus Connect conference in San Jose last October. For one, the company didn't say when the device would launch and instead used a placeholder of December 31.

The Oculus Go has a 2560 x 1440 LCD screen, a Snapdragon 821 processor, and integrated spatial audio.

'Oculus Go is the easiest way to jump into virtual reality, ' the Amazon listing states. The company says it is now working with networks to bring native integrations, but given that Netflix, Hulu and Showtime already have standalone apps in the Oculus store, this could be a challenge as VR viewership for them is likely quite tiny.

The Oculus Go is also designed with a lightweight, breathable fabric so that it can be worn for hours at a time. There is also a companion app in the Play Store or app store (for iOS users) for downloading games and apps for the headset.

In 2014, Facebook paid $3 billion to acquire Oculus and retain its employees.
