Ibrahimovic will not play at the world Cup

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's public flirtation and seeming committal to returning to the Swedish national team for the World Cup was a big tease.

National team manager Lars Richt said: "I talked to Zlatan on Tuesday".

Recall that Ibra who played at the 2002 and 2006 editions of the competition, was touted to make a return to the side even when he called time on his worldwide career in 2016.

Sweden's Zlatan Ibrahimovic gestures during their Euro 2016 group G qualification match against Liechtenstein in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, October 9, 2015.

The 36-year-old previously claimed he would entertain the idea of going to the World Cup in June.

Coach of Sweden's national team Janne Andersson has been coolly indifferent.

However, Andersson revealed that Ibrahimovic had not spoken to him about his desire to go to the World Cup.

"If you rejected the team, I do not think you should come back".

"It doesn't change anything for me", he said last month.

The former Manchester United striker has been an immediate hit with the Galaxy by scoring three goals in his first four MLS games.

"The Swedish national team's greatest goalscorer through the ages has not changed (his mind) and will not play the World Cup", read a brief statement posted on Instagram by the SvFF.
