G7 endorses US-led air strikes in Syria

Syrian UN Ambassador Bashar Al Jaafari had said the fact-finding mission would begin its work in Douma on Wednesday if the UN security team deemed the situation there to be safe enough.

WEAPONS inspectors finally entered Douma yesterday to investigate the suspected chemical attack, according to Syrian state media.

Vassily Nebenzia, Russia's ambassador to the United Nations, said the idea of establishing a mechanism to determine responsibility for the use of chemical weapons is "futile" since Washington and its allies already identified who the "culprits" are, referencing the US-led attack on Syria.

The US, UK, and France's missile strike on Syria's suspected chemical weapons sites involved 105 missiles fired from air and sea to rain down thousands of pounds of explosives on three sites across the country - but Israeli intelligence officers reportedly called it a failure. Even with the Douma investigation, there are allegations that Russian Federation has tampered with evidence on the ground.

The Barzah Research and Development Center in Damascus, Syria, before it was struck by coalition forces on Saturday.

Once a little-known disarmament organization, the OPCW rose to prominence when it won the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize and has stayed in the public eye ever since amid repeated allegations of chemical weapon use in Syria during the Mideast nation's seven-year civil war.

Russian Federation has accused the rebels of staging the attack with support from Britain, an allegation that Britain has strongly denied.

United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Wednesday that Staffan de Mistura embarked on the consultations following a meeting Monday with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the Arab League summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia "and in view of current tensions".

A United Nations official says a U.N. team on a security mission to the site of a suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria was sacked upon and had to return to its base in Damascus.

Less than two days later, the Army of Islam rebels surrendered the town, which was the last stronghold in the once rebellious eastern Ghouta region at the doorstep of Damascus.

"We have been very clear to the Assad regime, but also to other players on the ground, that a red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized", Obama said. It gave no other details on the intelligence.

Doctors at the hospital where suspected victims were treated told reporters on the tour that none of the patients that night had suffered chemical weapons injuries - they were asphyxiated by dust and smoke in a bombardment. Trump was also willing to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, she added, indicating that no such encounter was imminent.

Stating that the alleged use, if true, is deplorable, Rajamony pointed out that the use of chemical weapons anywhere, at any time, by anybody, under any circumstances, can not be justified and the perpetrators of such abhorrent acts must be held accountable.

The accounts contradict what the Syrian government and Russian Federation have reported: that there was no gas attack in Douma.

However, Tuesday evening, Haley countered in a statement read by Dana Perino on Fox News, "With all due respect, I don't get confused".

Tensions between the USA and Russian Federation have escalated in recent days over the conflict in Syria.

"I think it was the right thing to do and I think taking out, in particular, that R&D [research and development] facility in Damascus is significant", Rice said Monday at the annual convention in Washington, DC, of J Street, a progressive Jewish organization.
