Funeral arrangements set for Barbara Bush

Barbara Bush's funeral will be held at St. Martin's Church in Houston on Saturday.

"We'll commemorate her legacy by continuing her work toward universal literacy", he added. "The president and first lady's thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mrs. Bush".

The former first lady and first mother, widely celebrated for her focus on education and literacy, passed away at the age of 92 on Tuesday.

Mrs. Bush "was the unique type of woman who could tell you to go jump in a lake in colorful language - you would listen to her tell you that, and then you just wanted to give her a big hug", reminisced state Treasurer Walker Stapleton to The Gazette's editorial board in a piece published Tuesday evening. Barbara made a decision to take her to a pediatrician.

"I think it's fair to say that, without her influence, no one in the family would have succeeded politically".

Bush strove to avoid controversy.

She was born Barbara Pierce on June 8, 1925, in New York City. Students at the women's college protested, demanding a speaker whose achievements were independent from her husband's.

One summer day just over a dozen years ago, my wife and I took the kids to Kennebunkport to meet the Bushes.

Barbara Bush was only the second woman in US history to have a son of hers follow his father to the White House.

The first lady weathered the storm and, in the end, delivered a speech that would become famous.

The board and staff of the National First Ladies' Library are deeply sorry to hear of the passing of former First Lady Barbara Bush.

"It's not really a job".

Family spokesman Jim McGrath disclosed Barbara Bush's decision Sunday.

Mrs Madeleine Albright, who under Democratic president Bill Clinton was the first woman to serve as USA secretary of state, remembered Mrs Bush as a "woman of incredible determination, wit and compassion who embodied America's best values".

A champion of literacy, Bush worked hard to fund programs that would teach parents of low-income families to read and pass their love for reading onto their children and created the Barbara Bush Foundation For Family Literacy. She was surrounded by the love and kindness of others. "And I hate to tell her, she was America's grandmother".

The former first lady died last night after several years in failing health.

She first met her husband-to-be at the age of 16 when she was a schoolgirl and he was a student at an elite preparatory school in MA. They'd been married 73 years, more than any presidential couple.

"She was very much a political player in her own right", said Minutaglio, who teaches at the University of Texas at Austin. She inspired millions and helped countless others. "How to be loving and committed husband and wife towards one another". I'm a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother. Their daughter Robin died of leukemia at age three.

Mrs. Bush raised five children: George W., Jeb, Neil, Marvin and Dorothy.
