Man thought to be Canada's worst serial killer faces 8th murder charge

The list of murder charges against an alleged serial killer continue to grow.

Toronto police charged Bruce McArthur with an eighth count of first-degree murder after taking the rare step of releasing a photo of his corpse to the public in hopes of identifying him.

Police said last week that they had identified the victim but did not release the name until today. "But unfortunately now he is not with us", the man said.

Toronto Police are still working on the massive case, so it's possible Bruce McArthur may be charged with more crimes as evidence continues to surface.

Idsinga said investigators confirmed his identity with the help of an "international agency" but wouldn't expand on that. Idsinga wouldn't say how police obtained the photo. Within days, they announced they had made an ID. Later that month, McArthur was charged with the murders of Majeed Kayhan, Soroush Mahmudi, and Dean Lisowick.

McArthur has so far been charged with the murders of eight men between 2010 and 2017.

"We have lots of searches left to do as the weather gets warmer", Idsinga said.

Idsinga said investigators are looking into 15 other cold cases dating back to the 1975, but have not found a connection.

Kayhan's remains have not yet been found.

Police initially released a digitally altered photograph of an unknown deceased man in early March. They say he was 43 or 44 years old and was never reported missing.

Kanagaratnam was among at least seven bodies which were found at a home in Toronto where McArthur stored some of his landscaping equipment. Faizi's disappearance was also investigated as part of Project Houston.

Police believe Kanagaratnam was killed between September 3 and December 14, 2015.

There was a large wave of Tamil asylum seekers from Sri Lanka that arrived in Canada in 2009 and 2010 in the aftermath of the brutal military operations that ended a 25-year civil war.

Toronto police were able to identify Kanagaratnam with the help of an global government agency after circulating a photo of him that was found during their investigation.
