Colorado Teachers Next to Strike

School buses are rolling and school bells are ringing.

In order to compensate for low wages, some schools districts, such as Pueblo City, voted to switch to a four day school week to appease current and entice new teachers.

School will not resume in Tulsa until tomorrow.

The Economic Policy Institute, a progressive think tank, ranked Colorado 50th, ahead only of Arizona, in how teacher pay compares to that of other college-educated workers.

Crowding into the rotunda of the Oklahoma State Capitol, the teachers lobbied lawmakers to pass a tax package that would raise another $200 million for schools.

Waddington, who works in the non-profit sector, said she has seen "firsthand" how overcrowding in schools and lack of capital infrastructures and space limits students' access to library time, sports clubs, gym time and even bathrooms. The association is asking its members to wear red - reminiscent of what teachers in Arizona have been doing in a campaign they've called #RedForEd. That puts the state at 46th in the nation, according to the National Education Association. Also, some of that money used goes towards school infrastructure improvements and drug education.

They want the parents to know what the issues are.
