Cynthia Nixon: Trump's Win Inspired Me to Run for NY Gov

Cynthia Nixon may just be the fierce embodiment of her Sex and the City character Miranda Hobbes, since she's now running for governor of NY and turning insults into campaign merchandise. "Let's capture some of that revenue", she said.

Cynthia Nixon speaks to people at the Bethesda Healing Center in Brooklyn on March 20, 2018, at her first event since announcing that she is running for governor of NY.

The actress, 51, recently announced that she is running for governor of NY. "We have such an appetite now, that's why I'm running". She said that New York's gun laws are "not bad" but could use amending.

Williams and Nixon also discussed the death of Stephon Clark - a black man who was shot and killed by police in Sacramento, Calif. Nixon was quick to explain that she does think the shooting was a result of being what Williams called a "black man thing".

She continued that when Trump became the U.S. President, it dawned on her that if the people don't like the direction the government is going, then it's time for someone to step up and make a change.

Nixon, wearing a black and white printed top and black pencil skirt, took a moment to show off her Paul Andrew heels on the show's "shoe cam", saying, "It's really fun to dress up, but if you saw me in everyday life, I don't quite look like this".

Tough opponent: Nixon is challenging two-time incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo (pictured at an event on Monday) for the Democratic Party nomination in the September 13 primary.

"Black women are going to stop showing up for the Democratic Party if the Democratic Party doesn't show up for them", she said.

She's also leaving Miranda's signature fiery red hair in the past. "If you want it done, you have to actually get in there and do it yourself". "I'm a blonde with a little help these days". She quickly noted that she and the cast still loved all the clothes, but how the film wrapped everything up was not ideal.

"Normally, name recognition is relevant when it has some connection to the endeavor", Cuomo said. "If it's just about name recognition, that would really be a problem".
