How to Watch Villanova vs. MI

So, those are two pretty good ways to start the week, I think. I think it's likely. Wagner, a junior, is hitting his stride at the flawless time, just like the Wolverines. Honestly, it was just a lovely thing to watch.

Those first three teams with double-digits sweeps into the championship game won titles - Michigan State in 2000, Duke in 2001 and North Carolina in 2009.

When something like that happens, it's usually two-fold. MI held Loyola to 28 points in the second half after trailing 29-22 at the break.

MAAR played yet another dismal game on offense, a trend that seems to have him in a tournament long funk. Now, it's not like Kansas is playing Iowa Hawkeye-defense or anything like that, but it has paled in comparison. The over/under is now set at 144.5 points. The second-worst was past year when they gave up an average of 94.5 per 100 possessions and placed 24.

MI is 10th-best in the country in percentage of points allowed via the 3, according to KenPom.

Villanova bested that with 40 against Kansas.

There is a chance that the Wildcats will not be as efficient from deep as they were against Kansas. They want to be a part of it.

The Wolverines are not a Cinderella story. Villanova struggled if teams were able to slow them down, but that has always been a big if.

They won't feel it now, through the abject pain of losing when they were 60 minutes from their first title since 1963, but the Ramblers have done more than make an improbable run to the Final Four.

After almost three weeks of madness in the NCAA tournament, the field of 68 has been cut down to two teams. The Wolverines have had a unique path to the championship, failing to play any better than a 6 seed to this point. Who does that? You don't see point guards do that. Villanova won 76-66 in overtime.

Essentially, you have arguably the best three-point shooting team of all-time going up against one of the best three-point defensive teams in the nation. The 'Cats are absolutely loaded with guys that can shoot the 3, are unselfish in finding each other and create several matchup problems for ALL teams in the tournament.

"Nothing personal, but I'm the wrong person to ask", said Andy Enfield, the coach of Southern California, which fired associate coach Tony Bland after he was arrested in the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe, accused of accepting $13,000 for steering two players to specific business representatives. No big deal. Fisher proceeded to lead the No. 3 Wolverines to the championship with an 80-79 OT win against P.J. Carlesimo and Seton Hall.

MI likes to play methodically, ranking 324th of 351 Division I in's adjusted tempo ratings. The Elite Eight saw MI pull out a 4-point victory against Florida State.

While Illinois State's defense has gone from 19 to 139, Michigan's defense went from 69 to 3. Over the course of their winning streak, MI has played lock down defense, giving up just 62 points per game to opponents. Now, Yaklich may not deserve all the praise, but he should get some.

On Saturday, the typical Villanova possession involved working the ball down low on the wing, then a skip pass across the bottom of the paint, followed by one, two or three passes around the arc until somebody got open. Since 2002, KenPom's adjusted offensive efficiency rankings show that only one offense compares with what Villanova has done this year. This will certainly be a match-up of an elite offense against an elite defense. His teammates feed off his energy and emotion, and he can get them going at any time.

The public is behind Villanova tonight. You have to make them miss. MI will be better prepared to defend the 3 and keep this one close to the end. The discrepancy of five points is definitely something to keep an eye on.

Not sure I'll even bet this as I see Michigan as a small lean with the points, plus only a small lean on the over (maybe a small Michigan/Over parlay).

-Yesterday, Ogunbowale one-ups herself, canning a running 3-pointer right near the buzzer (0.1 remained) to give Notre Dame the national championship.
