Virginia jobless rate dips to 3.5 percent

It includes jobs in agriculture and individuals who are self-employed.

The number of unemployed in February was 95,099, the lowest number since May 2008.

Compared with 2016, the number of unemployed individuals, aged 15 years and over, increased by 124,000 to reach 3.45 million in 2017. Kentucky has added 7,200 jobs since February 2017, a 0.4 percent employment growth.

Walden said the current stagnant pattern - the rate has been between 4.4 percent and 4.8 percent the past 12 months - "reflects the labor force rising at the same rate as employment is rising".

Nonfarm data is provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Current Employment Statistics program.

Job levels in leisure and hospitality did not change, according to BLS.


Health care continued to be the outlier, adding 1,000 jobs since February 2017 for a 2.7 percent increase.

Year-over-year, EDD said Golden State payrolls swelled by 383,600, a gain of 2.3 percent.

"Ohio job growth this year is off to one of the strongest starts since the end of the recession, as only 2012 posted better numbers", wrote Hannah Halbert, researcher with Policy Matters Ohio, in an email. "February's increase occurred among retailers". Within the Professional & Business Services, the bulk of the job expansion was spread out over several subsectors of Administrative & Support & Waste Management & Remediation Services. The data also shows Wisconsin gained 1,500 non-farm jobs over the month. Non-durable goods manufacturing added 400 positions. The private service-providing sector added 28,000 jobs.

"We are excited about the latest unemployment figures, and will continue to work with our industry partners to place Louisianans in family-sustaining careers", said Louisiana Workforce Commission Executive Director Ava Dejoie. Over the year, every industry except information has gained at least 200 jobs and as much as 11,200. The professional and business services sector saw the largest increase: a net 8,300 jobs.
