Lincoln weekend snow warning increased to amber

Rather than blanket snow, cold winds from Scandinavia and Eastern Europe will bring lighter snow flurries across the east of the country.

On Saturday in the East of England and Scotland, it's expected that 1-3 centimetres of snow is likely, with up to 8 centimetres on the hills.

Night-time temperatures as low as -4c will move in over the bank holiday, so take that into account if you're out celebrating late.

It's been dubbed the "mini Beast from the East" and while only some places will get the worst of it, temperatures across the United Kingdom will plummet to as low as -3 by Sunday.

"Icy patches will form on untreated surfaces, pavements and cycle paths".

This increases the risk of accidents, as well as injuries due to falls.

In their update yesterday, Louth Weather also warned it would be cold but played down the possibility of snow on St Patrick's Day as some had forecast.

How cold will it feel?

"It can be very busy and a stressful time as well, so it's just important to give yourself time to head out on the roads, drive slowly, and be mindful of the poor conditions that are expected by Met Éireann over the weekend".

Snow covered roads in Chatteris from last month.

"By the end of Friday evening, 2-5 cm of snow may accumulate on high ground above 200 metres".

An amber warning of snow and ice is in place for parts of Essex.

Mr Snell said: 'I think if you live in England at least there will be a good chance you will probably see some snow, whether it amounts to much will depend on where you are.

An amber warning for snow and ice has been issued for the Midlands, Yorkshire, London and the north-west, south-east, and east of England between 4pm Saturday and 9am Sunday. "Expect weather warnings later today".

St. Patrick's Day is set to be a cold and windy day that will continue to get colder through the day, with scattered showers progressively turning more wintry.

Meteorologist Martin Bowles said the weekend's weather is not Beast from the East Mark Two, but could be called a "mini Beast from the East" as it will be less severe. Up to 10cm of snow is expected for these regions.

A AMBER weather warning of snow has been issued for Basingstoke and parts of Hampshire this weekend.

Met Éireann have issued a cold weather warning for Co Louth.
