Australia v England: Glenn Maxwell hits 39 in emphatic victory

The game plan was to back it up to the end and go well. We haven't performed to our abilities yet but now we look forward to New Zealand.

But David Warner's form is again in the spotlight after his relentless playing schedule. When he departed for 39 via a top edge to give Chris Jordan his second wicket, he was replaced by Finch who sealed a dominant performance with back-to-back sixes. Short's impressive summer continued with a measured 36 not out, allowing Maxwell to bring the decadence. Short, on the other hand, was biding his time in the middle and played some delightful strokes as well.

D'Arcy Short (36no) and Glenn Maxwell took a few overs to get themselves in before taking 39 off two overs, England spinners Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson feeling the full force of the two Aussie power-hitters.

Australian opener Aaron Finch was cleared to return from a hamstring injury, with Travis Head out of the side.

It was a stroll for the hosts as they chased down the target in the 15th over and ended the agony for the visitors.

Earlier in the day, the toss once again went in favour of Warner who opted to bowl first.

England now need to back-to-back victories over the Black Caps in Wellington and Hamilton to stand any chance of heading home with the silverware but Buttler believes a desire to right some wrongs will go a long way.

All the bowlers enjoyed their time as they stifled the run-scoring of the opposition. Andrew Tye was the other wicket-taker as Ashton Agar and Marcus Stoinis were also economical.

England, minus injured skipper Eoin Morgan, were reeling at 34 for three in the fourth over when David Warner ran out Dawid Malan with a brilliant direct hit.

Richardson was adjudged Man of the Match for his exceptional spell of bowling.

AUSTRALIA cruised to yet another simple win over England with Glenn Maxwell providing the fireworks for the hosts, once more.

Jos Buttler is hoping for one more crack at toppling Australia's Twenty20 specialists but knows England will have to improve considerably to reach the final of the Trans-Tasman tri-series.
