Trade grades: Is Jameer Nelson an upgrade for the Pistons?

According to a report from Yahoo Sports, the Pistons are largely making the trade to address some of the issues they had at guard this season. Though that group has performed decently, Pistons president/coach Stan Van Gundy is getting a familiar reinforcement - Jameer Nelson. James Ennis, who was also acquired by the Pistons, will not be available after getting stuck in bad weather today. He was then waived and the New Orleans Pelicans signed him but he was soon traded to the Chicago Bulls for Nikola Mirotic.

The Detroit Pistons will acquire veteran point guard Jameer Nelson from the Chicago Bulls for recently acquired center Willie Reed, a person with firsthand knowledge of the process told the Free Press on Thursday morning. Wherever Reed lands, he won't be available to play until February 25 thanks to a six-game suspension due to an offseason domestic violence incident.

Charania also reported the teams will swap second-round picks in 2022 as part of the deal.

The Pistons sent Avery Bradley and Tobias Harris to Los Angeles in the trade for Griffin, so a forward like Ennis who can make an occasional 3-pointer could be helpful to Detroit.

Nelson will beef up the Pistons backcourt with Reggie Jackson out with an injury while Willie Reed will join the frontcourt rotation in a limited role for the Bulls.

Drummond added A late addition for the NBA All-Star Game, Pistons centre Andre Drummond will now take part in the Skills Challenge, which will be held on February 17th. The 23-year-old Johnson was a first-round pick by the Clipper In 2016 out of North Carolina University. Just this past week the Pistons have acquired their much-needed superstar in Blake Griffin and are now starting to put more depth around him.
