Xerox to combine with Fujifilm

Xerox shares were up 9.70% at the time of reporting, after closing at $32.68 on Tuesday. The new Fuji Xerox will have dual headquarters in Norwalk, CT, U.S. and in Minato, Tokyo, Japan, with presence in over 180 countries.

The takeover bargain comes not as much as a year after Fujifilm conceded disgraceful bookkeeping norms at Fuji Xerox, yet Komori said that Xerox's solid administration gauges could be gainful to the new organization. Current Xerox CEO Jeff Jacobson will continue lead the company, while Fujifilm CEO Shigetaka Komori will serve as chairman.

However, as is often the case with many companies' restructuring efforts, there will be casualties.

Fuji Xerox mainly has operated in Japan and the rest of Asia, with Xerox handling business in the USA and Europe. "With the combined company, they can share cost on research, product development and potentially manufacturing capacity as well". The Japanese company is scheduled to hold a news conference on its business strategy tonight. Fuji Xerox is mainly engaged in business in Japan and the Asia Pacific region, while Xerox is mainly engaged in business in US and Europe. Xerox became famous for its hardware - its copiers were so ubiquitous that the name Xerox became a verb - and it also invented an early graphic interface and mouse now so familiar with modern computers. For its quarter ended December 31, Xerox revenues were almost flat at $2.75 billion and the company had a net loss from continuing operations of $196 million.

Fujifilm shares fell 8.3 percent on Wednesday ahead of its announcement of job cuts but after the Journal report about a deal with Xerox.

This highly synergistic combination is expected to deliver at least $1.7 billion in total annual cost savings by 2022, with approximately $1.2 billion of the total cost savings expected to be achieved by 2020.

Fujifilm Holdings is gaining control of Xerox in a deal that would create an $18 billion company and see the iconic American corporate giant launching into new lines of business to seek global growth.

The firm also cut its forecast for operating income for the year ending March 31 on Wednesday, with its outlook missing the lowest analyst estimate.
