Spider-Man: Homecoming writers to direct stand-alone Flash movie

Now Variety has reported that WB has put Flashpoint, which was formally announced at SDCC a year ago, back on track with Vacation and Game Night directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein set to helm the film. The duo almost directed that film, but they seem particularly well-suited for Flashpoint, given that their strength is comedy, and The Flash served as the comic relief in Justice League.

Man of Steel set the DCEU off in 2013, and was followed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - which failed to cross $1bn at the box office, a target it should easily have hit.

Daley and Goldstein are largely known for writing comedies such as Horrible Bosses, and writing and directing 2015's Vacation. So far, Warner Brothers has yet to comment. Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa was the next filmmaker appointed to direct the standalone, though sadly, the same sequence of events happened: Famuyiwa too stepped down in light of irreconcilable creative differences with those working on the film. While looking for his replacement, the studio made a decision to take the script in a different direction.

This is unedited, unformatted feed from the Press Trust of India wire. According to Sneider, Affleck was one of the people that Warner Bros.

The Tracking Board's Jeff Sneider revealed on Twitter earlier today that - prior to selecting John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to helm Flashpoint - the studio had approached none other than Affleck after it gave up on its bid for Robert Zemeckis to sign on. Ezra Miller is still locked in for the leading role, however, and Kiersey Clemons will reportedly be playing Iris West. Billy Crudup will play Miller's father Barry Allen. He also incorporated elements of Flashpoint, a DCU comics arc dealing with an alternate universe. Fingers crossed they have Thomas Wayne's Batman in it. One things for sure, if done correctly Flashpoint will be able to enjoy the rare DC on-screen success.
