Murphy signs order aimed at equal pay for women

Governor Phil Murphy-officially in office just two days-has already begun to implement numerous "progressive" policy changes he promised on the campaign trail and transform New Jersey into the "California of the East".

Democrat Phil Murphy on Tuesday will sign an executive order that promotes equal pay for women.

Gov. Phil Murphy signs his first executive order. He also urged fellow Democrats to get to work right away on measures that would follow through on major campaign promises, including increasing the minimum wage and boosting funding for women's healthcare.

Oliver will head the state's Department of Community Affairs will serve as acting governor whenever Murphy is out of state.

Murphy held the Cabinet meeting in Trenton with roughly two dozen officials. Most of the almost two dozen officials are serving in an acting capacity and have not yet been confirmed by the state Senate. Right-to-work laws, which have become popular across the country in recent years, prohibit unions and employers from requiring employees to join or otherwise support a union as a condition of employment.

The order requires the governor to disclose gifts from anyone he's met since January 16, 2015, three years before his inauguration.

On a federal level, Attorney General Jeff Sessions is seeking to crack down on marijuana while lawmakers from both parties, including New Jersey Democratic Senator Cory Booker, are pushing legislation that would do the opposite.

Murphy says the order covers his administration's code of conduct. The current wage was set under a constitutional amendment in 2013 that provided for raising the rate from $7.25 to $8.25, and thereafter according to inflation.

The governor proposed that NY do some fact finding.
