Trump quoted as asking 'Why allow immigrants from s-hole countries?'

The internet is in strong knee-jerk reaction mode to comments that, as of right now, President Donald Trump only allegedly said. They included senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Dick Durbin (D-IL), who thought they were meeting with the president alone but were surprised that immigration hardliners Rep.

On his program Thursday, CNN's Anderson Cooper talked about his experience reporting from Haiti, including a devastating 2010 natural disaster.

Donald Trump has responded to criticism about his alleged use of the word "shithole" to describe migrant countries, saying "this was not the language used". He then suggested the USA focus on bringing more immigrants from places like Norway, the paper reported.

News reported that Trump made similar comments, and other outlets also confirmed his quotes.

"He will always reject temporary, weak, and unsafe stopgap measures that threaten the lives of hardworking Americans, and undercut immigrants who seek a better life in the United States through a legal pathway", the statement concluded.

In addition, the president singled out Haiti, telling lawmakers that immigrants from that country must be left out of any deal, these people said.

The New York Times reported three weeks ago that Mr Trump had said Haitians "all have Aids" during a June meeting about immigration.

"Perhaps the White House feels the president's remarks will be well-received in some parts of this country, among some parts of the president's base, and perhaps that is true but it doesn't make what he said any less ignorant or any less racist". Some observers have called Trump's remark "racist", noting that Norway is predominantly white, while the countries he derided are not. Trump said, according to people familiar with the meeting. "I would not talk about nations like this, because I believe the people of those countries are made in the image of God and have worth and human dignity".

However, not everyone condemned the president's remarks.

President Donald Trump has questioned why the US would want to have immigrants from Haiti and African nations, referring to some as "shithole countries", according to two sources familiar with the comments.

Two sources briefed on the conversation say that during the portion of the conversation about Haiti - which came at the top of the exchange that led to the "shithole" comment - the president questioned why Haitians should be given specific consideration.

A spokesman for the Salvadorean embassy in Washington DC declined to comment.

Senator Chris Van Hollen is also speaking out on Twitter saying that he is disgusted.

Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.) called it "completely inappropriate for the president to refer to other countries in the manner in which he reportedly did, especially given the circumstances and disasters that led many TPS immigrants to seek refuge and shelter in the U.S". Bob Goodlatte, R-Va.

After the meeting, Marc Short, Trump's legislative aide, said the White House was nowhere near a bipartisan agreement on immigration.
