Sorry men, scientists say ibuprofen may be bad for your testicles

The study included 31 men, ages 18-35. The bad news is the ibuprofen is one of a large class of related drugs that includes aspirin, and the likelihood that other drugs will have similar effects is high.

There are new concerns that men who take a lot of Ibuprofen could face fertility problems. Men were then divided - 14 in an ibuprofen group, 17 in a placebo group. With testosterone and luteinizing hormones out of whack, the subjects in the trial taking the ibuprofen developed a form of "hypogonadism", which is usually prevalent in older men and is associated with male infertility and other health effects, including fatigue and depression. Ibuprofen, also known as an non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, has a negative impact on the testicles of young men, according to CNN. This would lead to continuously low levels of testosterone, because the body could no longer compensate for the fall.

When struggling to get pregnant, couples will immediately try to find the source of the issue, but a small new study has revealed that ibuprofen could be a potential sperm killer, and it's something all trying couples should read. Each dose was 600mg, equivalent to three over-the-counter pills.

Professor Allan Pacey from the University of Sheffield, cautions: "The results suggest that long-term use (several weeks) of ibuprofen can affect the production of the male hormone by the testicles".

This is a problem, as the function of LH is to stimulate the production of testosterone, and not to significantly surpass testosterone levels.

Again, it's important to emphasize this was a really small study that required two weeks of constant ibuprofen use before there was any indication that something was out of the ordinary.

But long-distance runners and athletes who regularly take ibuprofen during training or sports matches in order to ward off inflammation may want to keep an eye on the research.

In addition to limiting fertility, ibuprofen or NSAIDS, may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.

Fortunately, the condition went away in the volunteers when they stopped taking the medication.

The detrimental effects of daily ibuprofen were almost immediate.

"These are the first-ever results to show a link between ibuprofen and fertility", Bernard Jegou, a senior scientist at the French Medical Research Council and the school of public health at the Research Institute for Environmental and Occupational Health in France, who coordinated the study, told The Telegraph.
