Anti-Government Protests Across Iran are not Going Away

Iranian hard-liners rallied on Saturday in support of the country's supreme leader and clerically overseen government as spontaneous protests sparked by anger over the ailing economy hit major cities in the Islamic Republic. Many in Izeh, some 455 kilometers (280 miles) southwest of Tehran, have hunting rifles in their homes.

"Unfortunately in these clashes two citizens from Dorud were killed".

One official has confirmed the deaths of two protesters in Dorud in western Iran.

Iranian protesters took to the streets in the cities of Tehran, Kermanshah, Shahrekord, Mashhad, Tabriz, Bandar Abbas, Ahwaz, Amol, Izeh, Arak, Zanjan, Kerman, Lahijan, Behbahan, Doroud, Khorramabad, Gorgan, Saveh, Malayer, Hashtgerd, Chabahar, etc.

State media have now begun broadcasting some footage on the protests, though it focused on young men attacking banks and vehicles or burning the Iranian flag, reported AFP news agency.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani delivered a speech on Sunday evening in an attempt to ease tensions in the country.

"I do not know whether yesterday's shooting was done by rally participants or the police and this issue is being investigated", Khademi was quoted by ILNA as saying.

Foreign support can often be detrimental for protesters within Iran, as it routinely is used by the regime to undermine homegrown opposition demands.
