Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots total almost $700 million

Almost $700 million in lottery jackpots will be up for grabs, starting with Friday night's Mega Millions drawing.

On Saturday, the drawing for the $384 million Powerball jackpot will be held, with the lump-sum cash option at an estimated $242.9 million. Players can multiply prizes with the Megaplier option for an additional $1 per play. The $306 million jackpot is already the 13th largest in Mega Millions history. Also, make sure that if someone picked up a ticket for you, that they haven't signed it first.

"That was the last jackpot hit and hopefully we're fortunate enough to see another one of our players win again before the new year".

The idea was to go longer between jackpot winners, and to thus increase the size of the top prize.

The general odds of being struck by lightning in the United States in any one year is around 1 in 1 million, according to the National Weather Service, which based its calculations on averages between 2007 and 2016.

The move was similar to one made by Powerball in October 2015. Or if you're one of those people who do better with percentages: You have a 0.0000000000000011% chance of winning both games. A $2 million prize-winning ticket was sold this week in Georgia.

But that won't stop people from buying tickets to both games when they purchase tickets in the coming days.
