Netflix calls out 53 people who are binge-watching 'A Christmas Prince'

To the 53 people who've watched A Christmas Prince every day for the past 18 days: Who hurt you?

Meanwhile, Netflix has defended their tweet, saying it doesn't identify individual users, as per a report by the BBC.

Netflix recently conducted its annual Year in Review to assess the viewing habits of users, and this year they've gathered some pretty interesting results. The tweet's a joke, but not a very amusing one if you consider what could easily lie ahead for consumers online: less privacy and more powerful corporations. Apparently, even the production company that created the movie didn't anticipate its huge success, and is amused by the reactions the film is receiving now. Netflix, after all, produced and promoted the movie, which is in the vein of an uplifting, unapologetically cheery Hallmark film.

Some are even comparing the tweet to bullying and saying the tweet shamed customers watching the feel-good movie.

Netflix's statement, however, confirms that the stats are in fact real, and that 53 customers did indeed play the film on 18 consecutive days in November and December. The tweet in question got nearly 400,000 likes and more than 100,000 retweets too, so mission achieved.

'I guess it's like video store staff, except a massive database means it's easier for creepy Netflix staff to find and creep on individual people they know'.

It makes you think about how much data Netflix is hoarding about each user.

Still, he said, the surprise over the tweet is a reminder that people aren't always fully aware of what they're agreeing to when they click "accept" on a company's terms and conditions.
