Accommodation of dates a tradition: BJP on Winter Session

The party also denounced Congress for making it appear like the session was being delayed for the first time.

While the Congress has been accusing the Central government of delaying the Winter Session, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) questioned Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi over his attendance record in Parliament.

He said that the government is not running away from calling the winter session and was just deferring it in view of the Gujarat assembly elections.

Reacting to the same, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said the government will call the winter session of Parliament in December and its dates will be announced soon.

She also added that the Modi government in its arrogance has cast a dark shadow on India's parliamentary democracy by sabotaging the winter session of parliament on flimsy grounds.

While the Constitution does not specify as to how many times Parliament must meet in a year, the gap between two sessions can not be longer than six months.

He alleged that the Congress was levelling allegations out of desperation and frustration as it would be routed in assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Kumar asserted that the winter session of Parliament will be held in December and that it would be a "normal session".

"Congress' love for parliament is a pleasant surprise".

Prasad said Modi was the "pradhan sevak" (prime servant).

"It was Congress which staged walkout from both Houses of Parliament when the government was ready to discuss the issue of demonetisation".

"I have talked to many ministers, the Speaker, Lok Sabha Secretary General, but no one knows the dates of Parliament session".

The session began on November 22 and "continued through the (Gujarat and Himachal) election period, and until after the announcement of the elections till December 20".
