Rafa Benitez: Paul Pogba not at Steven Gerrard level

The 24-year-old scored one goal and assisted another as United eased to a 4-1 victory, after which Benitez was asked to laboriously compare Pogba with Gerrard.

"He affects our football", Mourinho said of Pogba.

While the Roy Keane take will be that they should not be celebrating a win over Newcastle in such a fashion, it's clear to see that most of this Manchester United team are good friends off the pitch.

"But we all know - myself, and the fellow players - that some players influence the level of the team".

Before that they face a trip to Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday.

"Pogba is not my player, so I don't need to talk too much about him. I am really proud of my players".

Nevin told Newstalk: "The physical prowess they've got to come back in [Pogba and Ibrahimovic], they'll be fine at home, they'll get top four".

"The second-half was ours".

And while Rashford and Martial produced starring performances, Mourinho feels the fact they are such similar players means he is likely to keep rotating the pair and increase competition for places. "Today was a game where we were doing really well, but as soon as they scored the second goal it was really hard".

Anthony Martial and Chris Smalling both got on the scoresheet before the break and then Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku - notching his first goal in eight club appearances - completed the rout.

As Pogba was leaving the field, and applauding a sated Stretford End after 70 minutes, Lukaku hammered the ball in from six yards for United's final goal and his first in seven matches. "It's not a problem for me if he works like he always does, and he doesn't score goals but for their self-esteem and self-confidence strikers want to score goals and he wasn't doing that for a few matches and I know that can affect a striker's confidence, so I was really happy that he scored that goal".
