Mourinho: Shaw? It's Fellaini that 'worries' me

Mourinho, the Manchester United manager, claimed at his pre-match press conference on Friday that despite being linked with a £50 million for Dier during the summer transfer window, eventual recruit Nemanja Matic was always his preferred target.

Matic reunited with Mourinho at Old Trafford after Chelsea sold the Serb for £40m.

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has not had the best periods working under Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese manager has often targeted the 22-year-old for criticism since taking over the reins at Old Trafford.

"Alli played but he didn't play against Real Madrid and I don't think it's a problem for them and they are a young, strong team, also physically, so I think they will be what they are, a very good team".

He said: "I don't speak about injured players so don't ask me about Harry Kane, because then I have to speak about Rojo, Ibrahimovic, Pogba, Carrick".

The coach certainly took advantage of the opportunity to rest some of his key players with the likes of Scott McTominay and Axel Tuanzebe coming into the side for a rare start, however the trip to Wales didn't see an appearance from defenders Eric Bailly or Phil Jones.

Though, along with Fellaini, contracts of six other United stars are set to expire at the end of the campaign, including Luke Shaw. "[We have] one more training session".

"If you want to speak about his words I would be very disappointed if his words were different".

"So, for me, the flawless words that show Luke Shaw's character in relation to the people he was happy with".

Mourinho admitted Shaw's chances of a recall were remote.

'Probably I have the player I didn't think it was possible to have, but in the end we got the player I really wanted'.
