Girl goes missing after being sent outside for not finishing milk

The father of a three-year-old girl at the center of an Amber Alert in the Dallas area is in jail this morning.

He returned 15 minutes to check on the child but she was missing, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Mathews didn't call to report his daughter missing until five hours later, according to Perlich, who was unavailable for additional comment early Monday.

Law enforcement said they believe Mathews is in grave or immediate danger. Sherin suffers from developmental issues and has limited verbal communication skills.

Mathews sent his daughter Sherin Mathews to the alley at 3am, according to an arrest warrant affidavit released Sunday, because the girl refused to drink her milk. Matthews' bond is set at $250,000. "They loved Sherin very much", he said. Police said she was extremely malnourished when the family took her in so it wasn't uncommon for her to stay up late to eat to try and increase her weight. The little girl disappeared from the 900 block of Sunningdale wearing black pajama bottoms, black flip flops, and a pink shirt. He said authorities are casting a broad net in determining what happened to the girl.

Police investigators also towed a minivan and two SUVs from the Matthews' home, searching for "any potential evidence", KING 5 reported.

Sherin Mathews is about 3 feet tall and weighs about 22 pounds.
