Chris Sale could pitch in relief in Game 3

Ladies and gentlemen, this man is on pace to having one of the greatest postseasons ever by an Astro and for sure one of the greatest by a player in Major League Baseball history.

It will be all hands on deck for Game 3 against the Astros on Sunday as the Red Sox look to avoid a second straight ALDS sweep - and that means Chris Sale in the bullpen.

Pete Abraham said, "There was a sort of grim resignation in the Red Sox clubhouse that Houston is a much better team".

Washington Nationals' Bryce Harper runs the bases for his two-run home run in the eighth inning in Game 2 of baseball's National League Division Series against the Chicago Cubs, at Nationals Park, Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, in Washington.

This is Sale's first year with the Red Sox after being traded from the Chicago White Sox back in December. He allowed multiple home runs in five starts over the last two months, winning none of those games.

Game two between the Houston Astros and the Boston Red Sox was pretty much a repeat of Game One.

The upstarts in 2013 saw Jon Lester toss 15 1/3 innings of one-run ball in the World Series, and when his team needed it most, John Lackey came alive. The surefire Rookie of the Year and AL MVP contender was 2 for 4 with an absolute bullet of a two-run home run in the AL Wild Card Game against Minnesota and should be fully locked in for this series. The Astros also won Game 2 on Friday (Oct. 6), sending the series to Boston with a chance for the team to sweep the ALDS.

Keuchel finished the regular season strong, limiting his final three opponents and seven of the last nine to fewer than three earned runs.

George Springer hit his first postseason home run to make it 3-1 before Altuve made it 4-1 with an RBI single later in the inning.

Dallas Keuchel remains undefeated in his postseason career at 3-0 and it took him a while to get things going in Game 2. Keuchel followed those up with three straight 3-up-3-down innings, allowing him to save his pitch count and stay in the game to finish with 96 total pitches. Boston is 7-1 in those eight games and the ERA the lowest ever by a postseason starter (since the start of championship series in 1969) with at least 50 innings. With Verlander facing off against Sale in Game 1. They were probably more identical than you think. Then it was time for Jose Altuve's first bat. In a five-game series, it only takes three wins to advance to the ALCS.

When it comes to clinching the division this weekend the Red Sox and everybody within the organization knew that they had to win.

For starters, the Astros acquired ace pitcher Justin Verlander from the Detroit Tigers in September and he has been dominant.

Before the game, Farrell wouldn't rule out the possibility of bringing Sale back on three days' rest to start Game 4.

After Jackie Bradley Jr. had an RBI single in the Boston second, the Astros started to break away.

Charlie Morton, who beat Fister at Fenway last weekend, is Houston's "if necessary" Game 4 starter, while the Red Sox haven't named a starter if that game is played Monday.
