What's Next For OJ After Release From Prison

The former National Football League and movie star was in the midst of serving a 33-year sentence for an attempted armed robbery of sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel room.

O.J. Simpson walked out to nighttime Nevada, having been released on parole after nine years behind bars for kidnapping and armed robbery.

Lavergne said an interstate compact regarding parolee transfers gives Simpson a right to move to Florida.

The 70-year-old was released at that particular time to avoid creating a media frenzy, Keast said.

The famous - and infamous - football great disappeared into a waiting vehicle outside a Nevada state prison Sunday, newly paroled, and disappeared into the darkness of the desert where the media spotlight couldn't find him.

A parole board granted him release in July, giving him credit for good behavior and for taking classes in prison. But two of his children, Justin and Sydney, also live in Florida. It was 5:30 in the morning, just hours after he had been released.

State parole and probation Captain Shawn Arruti told The Associated Press that Simpson has one approved residential plan, and it doesn't include a move to Florida. His case was assigned to an officer in the division's Southern Command, Las Vegas, the statement said. But as media requests began pouring in and her department began getting "a lot of comments and phone messages that were very aggressive in nature", she said they had to run a trick play.

But Scotto did not answer texts asking where they were going or whether members of Simpson's family were with them.

After Simpson was acquitted of murder in the death of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Goldman, a civil court jury found him responsible for their deaths. Simpson's trial was dubbed as "Trial of the Century" as it gathered worldwide attention. He says he only wanted to retrieve personal items, mementoes and family photos from two sports memorabilia dealers.

The onetime football star turned actor and TV pitchman nicknamed "The Juice" during his playing career was found not guilty in 1995 following that sensational, 13-month trial in Los Angeles, which was televised live daily, transfixing much of the nation.

Simpson is still obligated to pay the judgment, which now amounts to about $65 million, said David Cook, a Goldman family lawyer.
