Joe Paterno May Have Admitted To Prior Knowledge Of Jerry Sandusky's Abuses

According to a police report obtained by CNN, by the time whistleblower Mike McQueary told Paterno he'd seen Sandusky performing a lewd act on a child in the locker room, Paterno had already received a similar complaint.

That's according to a one-page state police report obtained by CNN, the news network reported Saturday morning.

The line in question states that one of Penn State's insurers has claimed "in 1976, a child allegedly reported to PSU's Head Coach Joseph Paterno that he (the child) was sexually molested by Sandusky".

The police report was allegedly written after Sandusky's arrest, more than 10 years after McQueary reported the incident to Paterno.

Sandusky was convicted in 2012 of the serial sexual abuse of 10 different boys between the time period of 1994 through 2008.

What did Joe Paterno know and when did he know it?

Paterno was the head coach of the Penn State football team from 1966 to 2011.

In the wake of Sandusky's arrest, Paterno was sacked from Penn State in November 2011, after 46 years as head football coach.

Paterno's death also made it possible for the impact of the Sandusky scandal on Paterno's legacy to become a lightning-rod issue that has, at times, created bitter divisions at Penn State and cast a pall over an era that - for many alumni and Pennsylvanians - used to be and should continue to be openly celebrated.

That contradicts Paterno's and his family's vehement denial-and Paterno's sworn testimony-that the coach knew of Sandusky's abuses before McQueary alerted him. You can definitely say with Paterno and argue with McQueary that despite them legally doing the right thing, they could have done more to make sure authorities got to Jerry Sandusky before he could harm any more kids.

In June 2012, a jury found Sandusky guilty on 45 counts relating to child sexual abuse and sentenced him to 30 to 60 years in prison.

Paterno's family sued the NCAA in 2013 over its investigation into how Paterno and other administrators handled abuse allegations. "I wish I had done more", was his response when he was sacked from his job after 46 years at the helm.
