Bangladesh bat, Australia go with three spinners

A 2-0 series defeat would send Australia tumbling to No.6 on the world Test rankings.

While Handscombe's been primarily used as a batsman throughout his Test career, he's also kept for Victoria at state-level, and gives Smith and Australian selectors an option if they want to shake things up.

Australia will head into the second Test against Bangladesh with an unsettled line-up and an unfavourable weather forecast that threatens to doom them to a humbling series defeat.

"It certainly can come into it", Smith said.

"They know they are under pressure, because normally they announce the XI", Mushfiqur said. We know that. But our boys are also pretty fresh and they are very consistent in Chittagong also. They are probably under pressure but it doesn't mean they will lose.

Bangladesh's only previous series wins have come against Zimbabwe on two occasions and a badly-weakened West Indies in 2009.

"We got to work on our lengths and obviously first innings runs are important as well".

Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Sabbir Rahman, Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (captain), Nasir Hossain, Mehidi Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam and Mustafizur Rahman.

The tourists replaced batsman Usman Khawaja and injured paceman Josh Hazlewood with batting all-rounder Hilton Cartwright and Steve O'Keefe, who joins fellow left-arm spinner Ashton Agar and off-spinner Nathan Lyon in the slow bowling department.

The batting is much more contentious, with both wicketkeeper Matthew Wade and number three Usman Khawaja under pressure, and at least one of them in line for the axe after failing in both innings of the first Test. Khawaja could be replaced by Hilton Cartwright or Matthew Wade may leave the team by handing the gloves to part-timer Peter Handscomb. The pitch is expected to take turn right from the word go, as was the case in the first Test.
