President Trump calling on Congress to rewrite the nation's tax law

Almost six-in-ten (58%) say Trump should listen more to Republicans who have experience working in government, while 34% say he should listen less. Fifty-six percent of voters believe Trump is tearing the country apart, while 33 percent say he is bringing it together. Another 12 percent of respondents said he "dislikes both". Just 16% say they like the way he conducts himself as president.

In the wake of racial tensions in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the unfolding natural disaster in Texas, voters from both parties lamented that Trump has failed to use the power of the presidency to lift up the country in trying times. The election of President Trump highlights the intelligence of the American voters because they have elected a president who possesses the administrative experience necessary to dismantle the welfare state and replace it with free market policies created to produce high economic growth.

Meanwhile, President Trump will begin his rally for simplifying the USA tax code and lowering rates on Wednesday, stopping at a factory in Springfield, Missouri to discuss how tax relief could jumpstart the American economy.

Among Republicans 38 per cent said they agreed with him on many, but not all, issues, while 77 per cent of Democrats said they agreed with him on virtually no issues.

He lost most ground among conservatives, Republican men, and white voters without a university degree. That's a slightly higher approval rating than a Quinnipiac poll out last week, which found just 35 percent approved of how the president is doing. "It will have to be revenue-neutral", Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in May.

But if you ask the question the right way, you can learn some pretty revealing things about Trump's base.

Though 69% of people who leaned Republican said they agree with Trump on many or all issues facing the United States, 46% said they have mixed feelings about Trump's conduct.

Charles Howard, an African-American Clinton voter who is self-employed, was incredulous at Trump's use of Twitter to attack his foes.

Trump's approval rating in the Fox News poll is his worst to date. However, more cite this concern after the August 12 violence in Charlottesville, Virginia than did so before that point.

The effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act failed, while Trump stood on the sidelines doing nothing to either improve the bill or get more senators on board.

One suspects that a high percentage of these Republicans know quite well how divisive Trump is, but they don't want to think of their choice for president as someone who divides the country. More than 8-in-10 voters think that describes him "extremely" or "very" well (81 percent).

It also examined how Americans view immigration policy. For negative terms, majorities say that the traits selfish (65%) and prejudiced (55%) describe Trump very or somewhat well. Roughly half of the public (52%) say Trump is not tough enough in dealing with Russian Federation; 35% say he is about right, while 6% say he is too tough.

Trump is an embarrassment for someone representing the party of Lincoln, and a disgrace to the legacy of Republican leaders such as Ronald Reagan and Bob Dole, who in their time condemned the types of groups we saw in Charlottesville. In it, they say they're open to working on a bi-partisan tax reform package.
